Sexyy Red & Sukihana Take Over the Country Club in “Hood Rats”

Published

on

A master of unprintable bars and shout-a-long hooks, Sexyy Red is one of rap’s freshest new stars. Reuniting with her kindred spirit Sukihana for her first new song since releasing Hood Hottest Princess, Sexyy shares Hood Rats,” her new single. Produced by Tay Keith, the man behind the boards for her Billboard Hot 100 hit “Pound Town,” Suki and Sexyy compete to see who can craft the most outrageously quotable lyric: Sexyy reiterates her preference for men who drive Hellcats, while Suki plots a way to seduce Joe Biden in the White House.

Taking inspiration from Caddyshack and bringing raunchy realness from the gentleman’s club to the country club, the Des Gray-directed video for “Hood Rats” deposits Sexyy and Suki in their very own miniature comedy film. The two rappers portray new members at a stuffy country club, as they proceed to remake the club in their own boisterous image. The new clip features cameos from Summer Walker and Saucy Santana, plus Webbie and Funny Marco, who show off their golf game, as the six stars scheme to make the stuffed-up club atmosphere more hood rat-friendly.

“Hood Rats” arrives during #SexyySummer, during which the St. Louis native has established herself as the most talked-about and acclaimed rising star in hip-hop. Sexyy’s breakout hit, the Tay Keith-produced “Pound Town,” has spent multiple weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, reached the Top 10 on Urban Radio, and its Nicki Minaj-featuring remix “Pound Town 2,” earned a GOLD certification from the RIAA. Together, all versions of “Pound Town” have racked up over 50 million global streams. Home to other hits like “SkeeYee,” a viral anthem praised by Drake and currently charting at #87 on Apple Music’s All-Genre singles charts and “Looking For The H*es (Ain’t My Fault),” soon to impact Urban Radio, Hood Hottest Princess is climbing the Billboard 200, where it reached a new peak of #126 this week, and Apple Music’s charts, where it is currently sitting at #6 on the Hip-Hop albums chart and #20 overall.

A relentless barrage of twerkable anthems, Hood’s Hottest Princess builds upon Sexyy’s brash and unapologetic persona. Songs like Hellcats SRTs and Female Gucci Mane exude an irrepressible bad b*tch energy, combining Sexyy’s crisp wordplay with an addictive drawling delivery that has become her signature. The mixtape earned a sterling 8.0 review from Pitchfork, who wrote that the mixtape “sets the tone for what she hopes is the nastiest, sweatiest, and freakiest summer since the smartphone came along” and “…30 minutes of straight-up standing-on-the-table raps. There are a handful of songs on here that are bound to be summertime anthems.” Featuring an additional appearance from Juicy J on “Strictly For The Strippers” and Sukihana on the Pitchfork-approved Born By The River,” Hood Hottest Princess is available everywhere via Open Shift/gamma.

With Hood Hottest Princess out now and a burgeoning fanbase that can’t get enough of her hits, the rising rapper is dominating during #SexyySummer. She recently announced that her biggest fan, Drake, has invited her to be the opening act on the remaining dates of his It’s All A Blur Tour” with 21 Savage. Stay tuned for much more from the rising superstar as #SexyySummer comes to a triumphant close.
