Icewear Vezzo Connects with Jeezy, Gangsta Grillz Tape Out 12/8

Published

on

A slick-talking Detroit hero who’s steadily upped his ante in recent years, Icewear Vezzo drips with insights into successful street living. Teaming up with a fellow hustler for his latest music video, Vezzo shares “One Time” ft. Jeezy. Complete with the menacing piano lines and ominous bells that characterize many of Vezzo’s most beloved tracks, “One Time” is an anthem dedicated to the trappers and the flexers, with a countdown chorus that demands to be chanted by a crowd: “Three times for the n****s in heaven/Four times for the bad b*tches that’s steppin.” Vezzo and Jeezy are complemented by the energetic ad-libs of the legendary DJ Drama, who also appears in the music video. Directed by Diesel Films, the video finds Vezzo, Jeezy, and Drama relaxing in Vezzo’s native 6 Mile, as they turn up in an abandoned warehouse.

“One Time” hails from Paint The City, the upcoming mixtape by Icewear Vezzo. Hosted by DJ Drama, Paint The City is the latest edition of the DJ’s famous Gangsta Grillz series of tapes. The new video is the second glimpse of the upcoming tape, following God Bless The 6,” a collaboration with his fellow 6 Mile native Babyface Ray. The first full-length to be released since Vezzo signed to Quality Control MusicPaint The City is available everywhere on December 8th.

The upcoming tape arrives at the end of a banner year for the respected Detroit rapper. In July, Vezzo released his acclaimed Rich Off Pints 3, the concluding chapter of Vezzo’s signature mixtape series. Continuing the path set by 2021’s Rich Off Pints and Rich Off Pints 2, which generated a combined 150 million streams across platforms, Rich Off Pints 3 is the product of a man who has been through hell in the pursuit of better days. The tape recently earned praise from Pitchfork, who stated, “His latest project basks in the idea that an album this regionally specific can still have nationwide appeal.” Later in the summer, Vezzo connected with Kodak Black for It’s All On U,” a buzzing single that racked up over 5 million streams on Spotify and 11 million views on YouTube.

Vezzo’s new deal with Quality Control marks the start of an exciting new period of success for the budding superstar. Consistently racking up more than 4 million streams on his catalog per week, Vezzo’s ambitions reach far beyond music, and even beyond the physical realm. The Iced Up Records CEO is a serial entrepreneur, starting his own businesses in fields as diverse as real estate, cannabis, snacks (We Eatin! brand recently dropped Vezzo’s own flavor of chips, called Vezzo Hotz), and jewelry maintenance. Vezzo is on track to be a pioneer in the burgeoning metaverse, with his own VezzoVerse launching soon and a forthcoming line of NFTs.

With limitless ambition and the work ethic to achieve his every desire, it’s only a matter of time before Icewear Vezzo takes over the game.

“Light Skin Shohei” by Kapri is an undeniable West Coast anthem that resonates with anyone who’s ever had to prove themselves in the face of doubt. Representing his hometown of Santa Ana, California, Kapri channels the essence of the West Coast sound with a bouncy, dark beat crafted by the talented producer FORTWOE. The track is an energetic declaration of self-confidence, with Kapri effortlessly laying down his message of resilience over the heavy, thumping bass and smooth yet sinister instrumentals.

From the moment the beat drops, you know you’re in for something special. FORTWOE’s production is a perfect blend of dark and bouncy, giving the track that signature West Coast feel while providing the perfect backdrop for Kapri’s assertive and charismatic delivery. The beat feels like it could knock in any late-night ride down the Pacific Coast Highway—smooth, confident, and ready to turn heads.

Lyrically, “Light Skin Shohei” is about overcoming obstacles and silencing critics. The song speaks to anyone who has been doubted or overlooked, providing an anthem of empowerment. Kapri’s confident, laid-back flow ensures the message hits home: rise above the negativity and show the world what you’re capable of. The reference to “Light Skin Shohei” even adds an extra layer of personality to the song, referencing the celebrated baseball player Shohei Ohtani and drawing a clever comparison to Kapri’s own rise, much like the athlete’s dominance in his field.

The way Kapri delivers his bars—cool, collected, yet forceful—brings out the track’s anthem-like quality. His cadence locks into FORTWOE’s beat, creating a synergy that feels both personal and universal, making it easy for listeners from all walks of life to vibe with the sentiment of success and determination.

In all, “Light Skin Shohei” is more than just a bouncy West Coast banger; it’s a powerful statement about pushing through adversity and asserting one’s place. Whether you’re cruising through the streets or listening to it at full volume to hype yourself up, this track does more than just entertain—it empowers.
