Key Glock Creeps with the Heat in “Play For Keeps”

Published

on

Baguettes in his smile, his toolie by his side, and Memphis on his shoulders, Key Glock continues to secure and expand the reaches of Paper Route Empire with a tireless passion for flashin’ and a surplus of Southern swagger. Channeling his inner Paul Walker of Fast & Furious, Glock returns to run pink slips and take no prisoners with “Play For Keeps,” a new video single from the upcoming Yellow Tape 2 (Deluxe). The Sledgren-produced track finds Glock gliding over idiosyncratic piano riffs and explosive subwoofers as he delivers some of his most charged up bars to date, rapping, “Nickname my .223 ‘TLC,’ cause I creep with the heat/Got big ol’ Glocks, we clear the spot and spin the block like CDs.”

The video for “Play For Keeps” finds Glock surrounding himself with the spoils of his independent dominance. Whether he’s maneuvering in his McLaren, cruising in his Cullinan, or wreaking havoc in his Hellcat, he proves that few things are more dangerous than a man with options, and Glock has plenty: “Money in my pocket, in my hand, and on your head,” he raps, “Cheating with my K, sleeping with Nina in the bed.”

After his 2021 project, Yellow Tape 2, debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200 chart, #1 on the Independent Albums chart, and #2 on the Top Rap Albums chart, Key Glock kicked off his 2022 with a new drive and sense of direction. “Play For Keeps” arrives in the wake of Glock’s recent single, “Pain Killers,” which saw the Memphis native double down on his commitment to the hustle and his indifference to the competition. “Play For Keeps” and “Pain Killers” set the stage for Yellow Tape 2 (Deluxe), Glock’s expansion on his hit 2021 album which arrives March 25th via Paper Route Empire.

The success of Yellow Tape 2 proved beyond all doubt that Key Glock is a standalone star in the truest sense. With the 20-track project, Glock cracked his first solo entrance into the Top 10 on the Billboard 200, racked up over 70 million streams on Spotify alone, and did it all without a major label or a single guest feature. In January, Glock paid tribute to his cousin, mentor, and friend, Young Dolph, with his potent tribute, “Proud,” which earned over 4 million views in its first three days, and received praise from The New York Times, among others. The track was featured on the recent compilation album, Paper Route Empire Presents: Long Live Dolph, where Glock appeared alongside his fellow PRE labelmates, and will appear on Yellow Tape 2 (Deluxe).

With Yellow Tape 2 (Deluxe) on the way, more videos in the pipeline, and a headlining tour starting in April–ten dates of which are already sold out–stay tuned to see what new heights Key Glock will reach in 2022.

Lu’ (@ottawasveryown) is back with another one! He has been shaking things up in the music scene since his ground-breaking debut “FEVA,” released earlier in February this year. Now, he returns with another highly-anticipated single, “Over,” out now. This offering is accompanied with a music video & solidifies Lu’s mark in the music game with his captivating storytelling and infectious sound.

“Over” is another compelling feel good single that highlights Lu’s artistic identity and capability. “Over evokes pure enjoyment and immaculate summer vibes,” he says. He invites listeners into an irresistible musical experience through the Afrobeats sound. Drawing inspiration from English and French-speaking artists, as well as Congolese artists, he sets himself apart from the industry as a multilingual artist. The accompanying music video was shot in Lagos, Nigeria and offers a setting of African greatness, luxury, and an overall great time.

Originally hailing from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and now making waves in Phoenix, Arizona, Lu’ is a renowned Arizona Cardinals linebacker who made his musical debut earlier this year with his debut single, “FEVA.” Fighting the notion of “shut up and dribble,” Lu’ has shown that he’s far more multifaceted than just an average athlete. He shares, “The narrative of ‘shut up and dribble’ is one I’ve fought internally for a very long time. I want my audience to grasp how passionate I am about chasing my wildest dreams. You can’t let another person tell you, your dreams are too far unattainable.” Lu’ has been able to perfectly parallel his passion and dedication of being a talented athlete as well as a talented artist.

It’s worth noting that Lu’ is a definite powerhouse to keep an eye on as he continues to break barriers in both sports and music. His transition from sports to music is a prominent testament to him embracing his versatility, following his dreams, and reaching new heights. The unfolding musical journey of this rising Canadian artist is a must see.
