Key Glock Slides Up On “Toolie”
Blessed with one of the best ears in the game, Key Glock can navigate any instrumental with equal parts force and finesse. Continuing the run up to Yellow Tape 2, Glock shares “Toolie,” his latest thumping banger, and its accompanying music video. Produced by Cldhrt, “Toolie” is a sinister street anthem in the Tennessee mold, reverberating with reversed piano rolls and syncopated handclaps, as Glock emphasizes that actions speak louder than words: “I never been the type to talk about it, b*tch I do this/Yeah I’m the one they talk about but n****s they don’t do sh*t.” In the video, Glock takes us through his daily routine, throwing on a hoodie, his PRE chain, and grabbing his toolie before he brushes his teeth.
“Toolie” is the latest glimpse of Yellow Tape 2, Glock’s upcoming project. The follow-up to 2020’s Yellow Tape, which peaked at #16 on the Billboard 200 and featured fan favorite songs like “Dough,” ‘Word on the Streets,” and “Look At They Face,“Yellow Tape 2 finds the 24-year-old artist refining his style, unleashing tighter flows, delivering cleverer punchlines, and giving even fewer f*cks. Blessed with production from an A-List of sound architects including Tennessee legends Tay Keith (Memphis), Juicy J (Memphis), and Bandplay (Nashville), plus heavy-hitters from across the rap spectrum like Sosa 808, Budda Bless, and more, the upcoming project finds Glock once again demonstrating why he’s one of the most respected lyricists in his city. Featuring recent singles like “the chaotic, Tay Keith-produced “Ambition For Cash.”” and the chaotic, Tay Keith-produced“Ambition For Cash,” Yellow Tape 2 arrives on November 5th via Paper Route EMPIRE.
The upcoming Yellow Tape 2 continues a busy year for Glock, as he’s spent time collaborating with his Paper Route EMPIRE associates. Earlier this year, he connected with his label boss and frequent sparring partner Young Dolph for Dum And Dummer 2, their second full-length collaborative album. Debuting at #8 on the Billboard 200, Dum & Dummer 2 generated nearly 36k sales equivalent units across platforms and scored the fifth-biggest streaming debut on Spotify during its first week of release. Earlier this month, the album received a glowing review from Pitchfork, who awarded the album a 7.5 score and cemented Young Dolph & Key Glock as a “once-in-a-generation” rap duo, akin to 8Ball & MJG or Method Man & Redman, and “one of the most in-sync alliances in the genre today.” Dum & Dummer 2 is the duo’s second Top 10 album, following the original Dum and Dummer, which also debuted at #8 in 2019. Glock also made multiple appearances on PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi, the first-ever label compilation tape by Paper Route EMPIRE. Along with collaborating with fellow PRE signees like Snupe Bandz on “Blu Boyz” and “Bandaid” and Paper Route Woo on “Big Ol Racks,” Glock connected with Gucci Mane for project highlight “I Do This.“

Lu’ (@ottawasveryown) is back with another one! He has been shaking things up in the music scene since his ground-breaking debut “FEVA,” released earlier in February this year. Now, he returns with another highly-anticipated single, “Over,” out now. This offering is accompanied with a music video & solidifies Lu’s mark in the music game with his captivating storytelling and infectious sound.
“Over” is another compelling feel good single that highlights Lu’s artistic identity and capability. “Over evokes pure enjoyment and immaculate summer vibes,” he says. He invites listeners into an irresistible musical experience through the Afrobeats sound. Originally hailing from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and now making waves in Phoenix, Arizona, Lu’ is a renowned Arizona Cardinals linebacker who made his musical debut earlier this year with his debut single, “FEVA.” Fighting the notion of “shut up and dribble,” Lu’ has shown that he’s far more multifaceted than just an average athlete. He shares, “The narrative of ‘shut up and dribble’ is one I’ve fought internally for a very long time. I want my audience to grasp how passionate I am about chasing my wildest dreams. You can’t let another person tell you, your dreams are too far unattainable.” Lu’ has been able to perfectly parallel his passion and dedication of being a talented athlete as well as a talented artist.
It’s worth noting that Lu’ is a definite powerhouse to keep an eye on as he continues to break barriers in both sports and music. His transition from sports to music is a prominent testament to him embracing his versatility, following his dreams, and reaching new heights. Asian-American rappers Star2, ChinaTownRunner, and $tupid Young release the new single / video entitled “FWM”. The single precedes Star2 and ChinaTownRunner’s upcoming EP and sets the bar high with haunting cavernous beats and dark melodic flow.
Each of them affirm that they are “about money” in their separate verses and all ask listeners to “come and F*** With Me.” The music video for “FWM” captures Star2, ChinaTownRunner, and $tupid Young in a graffiti-stroked garage full of sports cars and women. Leaning into the sheer magnitude of the track itself, the visuals for “FWM” zero in on each rapper for an intense performance.
Star2 and ChinaTownRunner are preparing to embark on a summer tour with $tupid Young set to appear at multiple dates. Additionally, Star2 and ChinaTownRunner will perform on July 6th in support of the annual Ka-ren Soccer Tournament and Concert in South Dakota.
Star2 is a refugee artist from the Mae La refugee camp in Thailand. Star2’s documentary, RETURN TO KAWTHOOLEI: A Refugee Rapper’s Journey to His Homeland in Burma will be screened at the New Media Film Festival in LA on June 6th. So far, the documentary has been awarded with “Best Short Documentary” at the Malaysian Film Festival, “Best Documentary” at the Busan New Wave Short Film Festival in S. Korea, “Best Web and Media” at the IndieX Film Fest in LA, and “Exceptional Merit in Docu-drama Short & Human Spirit” at the Documentaries Without Borders Film Festival. Star2 returns to Thailand in May for his second trip.
