Sexyy Red Gets So Icy in the “Female Gucci Mane”

Published

on

Ceaselessly confident and endlessly quotable, Sexyy Red is tearing up the rap game with her unapologetic rhymes. Today, Sexyy Red shares Female Gucci Mane,” her new single. The St. Louis native has earned comparisons to the legendary 1017 CEO for her raw lyricism and deep connections to the streets. “Female Gucci Mane” is the latest single from Sexyy Red’s upcoming project, due this spring. Produced by Shawn Ferrari (Chief Keef, Gunna), whose bombastic beat would fit easily into one of Gucci’s DJ Scream-curated mixtapes, “Female Gucci Mane” is a speaker-knocking statement of purpose from the top-trending rapper, as she basks in the attention of her growing legion of admirers: “I’m hella conceited b*tch I’m sexy as sh*t/I see you steady lookin’ baby go on take a pic,” she spits.

“Female Gucci Mane” is the highly-anticipated follow-up to “Pound Town,” Sexyy Red’s bass-boosted Tay Keith-produced viral hit. Racking up over 2.5 million streams in the past week, the song reached the #1 spot on Spotify’s U.S. Viral 50 chart. Defined by Tay Keith’s pounding piano line and Sexyy’s supremely chill Southern drawl, “Pound Town” is the song that people on the internet can’t stop quoting. Originally released in January, “Pound Town” picked up steam in the subsequent months thanks to the viral #PoundTownChallenge, which helped the song generate over 200k video creations on TikTok. With a coterie of high-profile fans tapping in and quoting their favorite lyrics, including Cardi BSummer WalkerGloRillaJT of City GirlsRico Nasty, and TiaCorine, a recent writeup in Billboard, and an appearance on on the first remix to “Slut Me Out,” the Billboard-charting hit by NLE Choppa, Sexyy Red and “Pound Town” are only beginning to rise.

“Pound Town” might be her breakthrough moment, but real (dread) heads know that Sexyy Red has been putting in work for a long time. She first turned heads with her gender-flipped remixes of songs like Three 6 Mafia’s “Slob On My Knob” (“Slob On My Ckat“) and Tay-K’s “I Love My Choppa” (“I Love My Nickel“), showing off her knack for crisp turns-of-phrase and eye-popping and viscerally frank bars. Her inventive visuals for songs like “Throwin It” and “Sexyy,” from her 2021 mixtape Ghetto Superstarhelped her build a following on Instagram (307k followers), YouTube (67.5k subscribers), and Twitter (139.4k followers).

Sexyy Red hype reached a fever pitch in the Fall, when she collaborated with Summer Walker on “Sense Dat God Gave You” and with fellow sex positive diva Sukihana on “Born By The River.” Built around a flip of a famous Sam Cooke lyric, the latter song was an impressive statement, earning a glowing review in Pitchfork and prompting an Instagram follow from Drake. Sexyy re-teamed with Sukihana
With much more music on deck and a burgeoning fanbase that can’t get enough of her hits, the rising rapper is preparing for a Sexyy Red Summer. Get on board now, before the ship blasts off.

Published

Black Skywalker, the rising artist with an undeniable buzz, drops his debut EP, I Need Therapy.

The new project promises to usher in the new era of hip-hop. “Rap music is in a dark place and I came to bring the light,” said Skywalker. “The type of music I make is best described as Outer Space Jedi-level rap shit.”

Black Skywalker and Chris Rosa produced the debut EP featuring the focus track “Pills and Alcohol”. The single describes a man battling depression and anxiety with prescription medicine and champagne.

The EP includes hard-hitting 808s, crackling snares, and spacey synths. “We in Love” is a melodic record with a bouncy bass and drums. However, the lyrics depict a flawed relationship due to social media and porn addiction.

Black Skywalker’s ‘Pain of Letting Go’ has huge production and raw guitar. The lyrics express deep emotion and heartbreak, making the EP’s inspiration very clear.

“Therapy” is a song that touches on the struggles of life and the importance of seeking help. The production is interesting, with dark verses and uplifting hooks. The second verse highlights the benefits of opening up to a therapist and encourages others to do the same.

“Slide with Me” is a standout track from the EP with great production and an infectious hook. It narrates the story of falling in love with the woman of your dreams and has an upbeat vibe that sets it apart from the rest of the EP.

EP delivers a relatable conversation, amazing production, and intentional songwriting. Black Skywalker calls it outer space Jedi-level rap music.
