Kid Cudi Producer Dot da Genius shares “Talk About Me” (feat. Kid Cudi, Denzel Curry, & JID)

Published

Multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated producer Dot da Genius has just shared his new single “Talk About Me” (feat. Kid Cudi, Denzel Curry & JID) with a Lyrical Lemonade directed visual. The bolstering track features a punchy trio of verses from Cudi, Denzel Curry & JID over an ethereal and psychedelic instrumental courtesy of Dot da Genius. The Lyrical Lemonade visual features a mirage of animated shots including Cudi wrapped in a Louis Vuitton space suit performing in a mirror-laced room, Denzel Curry & JID rapping in a black & white wonderland, and Dot da Genius running the whole show in an impressive control room. The visual also marks the first collaboration between Lyrical Lemonade and Kid Cudi––satisfying an all-time career goal for director Cole Bennett. Dot da Genius has been the mastermind behind some of hip-hop’s most transformative moments of late, and now with the help of his long-time collaborator Kid Cudi, Denzel Curry, JID & Cole Bennett––he’s ready to show the world his own distinct creative vision.

“I’ve been in music for a long time, right now I’m understanding what phase and era I’m entering. It feels good to finally make the decisions, decide what looks good, and just get my vision out to the people that supported me all this time. There are so many kids out there that have supported me, so I want to give them something to hold on to.” – Dot da Genius

Dot da Genius is fresh off executive producing the third chapter of Kid Cudi’s coveted Man on The Moon series released in 2020 and scoring the soundtrack to Cudi’s upcoming animated Netflix series Entergalacticpremiering in September. “Talk About Me” has been in the works since early 2019 when Denzel Curry & Dot met for the first time in a recording session at Dot’s studio, The Brewery Recording Studio. Denzel and Dot’s creative relationship continued, with Dot producing a pair of tracks on Denzel’s 2022 album Melt My Eyez See Your Future. In 2020, Dot was playing records for Cudi in his studio and after hearing “Talk About Me”, Cudi was enthralled by the track and immediately decided to add a verse to it. Dot wanted to add an additional rapper on the track and sought to have an all-star lyricist on “Talk About Me”, so JID was a natural choice for him. Denzel Curry personally looped in Cole Bennett to head the video for the track––with Lyrical Lemonade adding the experimental and vibrant visuals to pair with the star-studded collaboration.

Exploring the turbulent environment of his Chicago home with gripping narratives and fine-tuned details, King Von could tell a story like no other. Today, on what would have been his 28th birthday, Von’s estate shares the video for “Get It Done” ft. OMB Peezy, a hyperactive highlight from the artist’s posthumous album What It Means To Be King. Produced by frequent collaborator Chopsquad DJ, who provides a whirling dervish of piano arpeggios, “Get It Done” is a stern warning from both rappers about what happens to those who cross them. In the video, Von and Peezy get the drop on some would-be attackers before whipping off to a secluded area in a brand new Maserati. “Get It Done” is the latest quality visual to stem from WIMTBKand the first since March’s “Too Real.”

A labor of love that compiles unheard music from the artist’s oeuvre, What It Means To Be King features contributions from many of the people who knew Von best, including regular producer and collaborator Chopsquad DJ, his “twin” Lil Durk, and fellow O’Block natives like Boss Top and DqFrmDaO, along with street rap heroes like like 21 SavageMoneybagg YoG Herbo, and more, making plain the level of respect Von commanded in the rap game at large. Keeping the same ferocious bars of his earlier work, but also hinting at direction he might’ve taken in the future, What It Means To Be King is home to “Don’t Play That” ft. 21 Savage, one of Von’s most successful singles to date, reaching #40on theBillboard Hot 100, climbing into the Top 10 of the Hot Rap Songs chart, and compiling 55 million streams on Spotify alone. The album made a massive splash when it debuted in March, reaching #2 on the Billboard 200 behind 59k first-week album-equivalent units sold.

With over 565 million on-demand streams to date, What It Means To Be King puts an exclamation point on Von’s legacy, confirming his status as one of the greatest talents to emerge from Chicago. A worthy follow-up to Von’s GOLD-certified debut Welcome To O-Block, the upcoming album is a bittersweet treat for fans, and a moment of closure for those who loved him most. An icon in his neighborhood and the rap game at large, WIMTBK gives King Von’s crazy story the conclusion it deserves.

Trapland Pat‘s dexterous flow, deep sense of melody, and infectious smile have helped the young rapper position himself as a rising star in the bustling South Florida scene. Earning a co-sign from the Sunshine State’s sunglass-clad jefe, Pat recruits Rick Ross for Big Business (Remix).” Built around the bouncy piano rolls of Pat’s constant collaborator Pepper Jack Zoe, “Big Business” first saw release in 2021, and quickly became Pat’s breakout hit. Exuding easy confidence and packed with off-beat wordplay (“If you need a loan, you gotta pay me interest/No cappery/ Call the weed man, ’cause this shit here swappery”) the song racked up over 4 million YouTube views and earned recognition from Passion Of The Weiss, who ranked the song #18 on its list of Best Rap Songs of 2021. On the remix, Rick Ross slides like the booming-voiced boss he is, rhyming about carrying extendos in his fresh Rolls Royce and old school Box Chevy.

The remix arrives with a new video, which brings the veteran Ross to Deerfield Beach, giving the Miami native an opportunity to bless the bustling scene in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood. Directed by Pat’s go-to shooter ShotByJolo, the video vibrates with excitement, as Pat and his homies celebrate their ascent. The video embodies a distinctly Floridian blend of chaos, as Pat rides a horse through Little Haiti and Rick Ross pulls up in 700 horses of his own. The video features cameo appearances from the track’s producer Pepper Jack Zoe, rappers like Sauce WalkaFCG HeemSauce Wooden, and Taleban Dooda, YouTubers like King CidJ Wonder, and Pappi Willie, and DJ Sam Sneak, along with dozens of Deerfield Beach residents who turn the block into a party. “Big Business (Remix)” follows Pat’s recent project Trapnificentwhich came out in May.

The follow-up to last year’s Thru Da Door,Trapnificent is home to standout singles like the joyful “Trap Dance” and the sinister “D.O.A.” Pat taps Pepper Jack Zoe to handle the bulk of the production, his creeping piano-led beats providing grounding for Pat’s larger-than-life bars and hummable melodies. Trapnificent rolls out the red carpet for a tasteful selection of guests, including Sacramento street hero Mozzy,Fredo Bang, who signed Pat to his imprint Bang Biz and appears twice on the tape, NYC Winners Circle maestro Eli Fross, and Memphis’

Ready to bring his searing street raps to a larger audience, Trapland Pat has the goods to be Broward County’s next big star. Trapnificent is available everywhere via Bang Biz Ent./Alamo Records.
