Icewear Vezzo Shares Song with Kodak Black, Signs With Quality Control Music

Published

on

Detroit heavy-hitter Icewear Vezzo announces his new record deal with Quality Control Music. The critically acclaimed artist and entrepreneur joins game-changing artists like MigosLil Baby, and City Girls on the label’s star-studded roster. Along with the signing announcement, Vezzo shares his new video single “It’s All On U,” a collaboration with rap superstar Kodak Black. The Kardiak-directed video finds Vezzo and Kodak mobbing in the Mitten, as Kodak rocks University of Michigan attire from head to toe.

“I think QC was the best fit for me,” says Icewear Vezzo. “The structure of the label and the way Coach and P respect the artists’ creativity—that’s important. You don’t see that a lot. They take what you already got and just add to it and make it way bigger.”

Icewear Vezzo’s entrepreneurial spirit and history of setting trends makes him a perfect fit for the label’s roster. The 6 Mile native established himself over a decade as one of the most respected slick-talkers in Detroit’s bustling rap scene. He was instrumental in shaping the city’s dark, piano-and-punchline-heavy sound with his popular ClarityRobbin Season, and Rich Off Pints mixtape series.

“P and I have a lot in common with the way we look at the rap game and opportunities,” says Vezzo. “When we first linked up it was just ‘I f*ck with your brand, and your hustle.’ We just vibed. We just vibed for like a year straight before we even discussed the possibility of signing. I admire P–he’s doing sh*t a whole other way.”

The Iced Up Records CEO’s new partnership arrives on the heels of Rich Off Pints 3, the concluding chapter of Vezzo’s signature mixtape series. Continuing the path set by 2021’s Rich Off Pints and Rich Off Pints 2, which generated a combined 150 million streams across platforms, Rich Off Pints 3 is the product of a man who has been through hell in the pursuit of better days. The tape recently earned praise from Pitchfork, who stated, “His latest project basks in the idea that an album this regionally specific can still have nationwide appeal.” The new project has guest appearances from Lil BabyLil DurkKey Glock–who appeared with Vezzo last month in the video for “Whatever“–E-40G Herbo, and many others, and is available everywhere via Iced Up Records.

Vezzo’s new deal with Quality Control marks the start of an exciting new period of success for the budding superstar. Consistently racking up more than 4 million streams on his catalog per week, Vezzo’s ambitions reach far beyond music, and even beyond the physical realm. The Iced Up Records CEO is a serial entrepreneur, starting his own businesses in fields as diverse as real estate, cannabis, snacks (We Eatin! brand recently dropped Vezzo’s own flavor of chips, called Vezzo Hotz), and jewelry maintenance. Vezzo is on track to be a pioneer in the burgeoning metaverse, with his own VezzoVerse launching soon and a forthcoming line of NFTs.

With limitless ambition and the work ethic to achieve his every desire, it’s only a matter of time before Icewear Vezzo takes over the game.

TOOSII’S DEBUT ALBUM, ‘NAUJOUR’, IS OUT TODAY

Published

By

Today, Toosii released NAUJOUR, his debut album, via South Coast Music Group/Capitol Records. The 19-track album includes the Platinum-certified “Favorite Song,” which is No. 1 at Rhythm radio and is currently top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, subsequent versions of “Favorite Song” with Khalid and Future. Download / stream NAUJOUR HERE. Hailed by Complex as one of “music’s brightest stars,” Toosii will support the album with an extensive summer headline tour. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com. See below for itinerary.

Born NauJour Lazier Grainger in Syracuse, NY, Toosii began focusing on music after he moved to Raleigh, NC, as a teen. He says, “I had always told myself that when I dropped my debut album, it would be a self-titled album. I feel like there is a difference between NauJour and Toosii and with this album, I am actually giving people the real in my life.”

On NAUJOUR, the 23-year-old artist oscillates between disarming tenderness (“Favorite Song”) and jagged cool. He trades bars with 21 Savage on “Pull Up” for an effortless blend of menace and machismo. On “Rich Ridin,” he coasts over insistent percussion as he lets loose emphatic flexes and implicit warnings for his enemies. The slow burning “FWLM” blends raw lyrics with elegant instrumentation as Toosii swings from brash and confident (“Backseat, Double R, let me set the bar”) to vulnerable (“Brought her to the studio / Just for her to break my heart and play me like a Yu-Gi-Oh!”). Toosii shot the immersive, atmospheric official video for “FWLM” in downtown Los Angeles with frequent collaborators Joan Pabon and Logan Fields (Rod Wave, Syd). Tune in tomorrow afternoon for the video premiere HERE.

Named by Billboard as an early contender for “Song of the Summer 2023,” “Favorite Song” has amassed over 260 million combined global streams while the audio has been featured in over five million global TikTok creations, earning more than three billion combined views. XXL Magazine put “Favorite Song” (feat. Future) [Toxic Version] on its list of the best new hip-hop songs and Brooklyn Vegan observed, “It’s a syrupy slow jam that Future is perfect for.” Praising the remix with KhalidHYPEBEAST said, “An R&B song reflecting on the woes of heartbreak, the resulting collaboration is a series of layered, drawn-out vocals, subtly punctuated with the tapping of drums.”

Toosii recently performed “Favorite Song” during the two-hour live season finale of Season 23 of NBC’s four-time Emmy Award-winning competition series “The Voice” and on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

After releasing a stream of projects between 2017 and 2019, Toosii solidified his emerging star with his South Coast Music Group debut, Platinum Heart, which included fan favorites “Love Cycle” and “Red Lights.” Poetic Pain followed, which injected Toosii into the national consciousness and earned him a spot in the 2021 XXL Freshman class. From there, he kept up his momentum with efforts like Thank You for Believing and Pretty Girls Love Toosii, which combined his sensual vocals with understated soundscapes. Released after the birth of his son, 2022’s Boys Don’t Cry saw Toosii reach even deeper into his emotions. “It’s alright as a man to tap into that emotional side,” he said at the time.

NAUJOUR is further proof of Toosii’s willingness – and his power – to succumb to the emotional compulsions the world says Black men shouldn’t acknowledge. With this comfort, he writes more earnestly while singing more passionately, signifying his total artistic control. “I want NAUJOUR to be a classic, timeless project,” Toosii says. “I want people to understand who I truly am and recognize that I am an artist that’s going to be around forever and not for the moment.”

Trapland Pat Aims to Educate with ‘Professor Trap’ Mixtape

Published

By

Communicating his street lessons using crisp turns of phrase and easygoing melodies, Trapland Pat is wise beyond his years. Taking fools to school with his expert-level wealth of trap knowledge, the Deerfield Beach native shares Professor Trap, his new mixtape. Featuring varied and tuneful production from his running mate PepperJack Zoe, along with other Florida sound architects like 2Side and Dom2groovy, Professor Trap deepens Pat’s tropical mythology, as the artist embraces his region’s signature sound and makes them his own.

Spanning 15 tracks, Professor Trap runs the gamut from sinister, on tracks like the creeping “Z Land” and the recent single “Spoof” ft. Tee Grizzley, to celebratory, on the uptempo rider’s anthem “Hood Star” and the soaring “Top Floor.” At times, the new tape finds Pat embracing his funkier side, on tracks like the speaker-knocking Broward County anthem “Dixie Highway” and the DJ Chose & Hardbody B-Eazy-produced “Where’s Billie Jean,” a soulful collaboration with Pat’s Bang Biz boss. The 24-year-old rapper asserts himself as a major player in his home state’s scene, recruiting rising and veteran Florida stars to spar: Luh Tyler’s laid back rasp meshes perfectly with Pat’s easygoing croon on “Backstreet,” while The Boss himself, Rick Ross, shows up to bless Pat’s “Big Business (Remix).” Featuring additional appearances from Big Yavo, GT, Loe Shimmy, Lil Toe, and C Stunna, Professor Trap is available everywhere via Bang Biz/Alamo Records.

Professor Trap is the anticipated follow-up to Trapnificent, Pat’s acclaimed 2022 mixtape. Pat’s first release for Bang Biz and Alamo Records, Trapnificent earned praise from Pitchfork, who called the project a “zippy distillation of his regional roots” and said that Pat’s music is “extremely regionally and culturally specific, like so much exciting and promising new rap music.” Trapnificent kept up the momentum from 2021’s Thru The Door, home to “Big Business,” which generated over 10 million streams and earned a spot on Passion Of The Weiss’s list of Best Rap Songs of 2021.

Ready to build on his impressive 2022 and bring his South Florida street raps to a larger audience, Trapland Pat has the goods to be Broward County’s next big star. Professor Trap completes his evolution from student to master. Stay tuned for much more.
