BLK ODYSSY SHARES “ODEE”

Published

on

Multifaceted Austin-based talent BLK ODYSSY returns with “ODEE,” a spacey, relaxed single available now via EMPIRE. “ODEE” is a luxurious piece of R&B that sees BLK lyrically ooze confidence, flaunting his extravagant lifestyle in order to win the attention of women; he croons, “get a bag, get a bag, she ain’t looking at a money tag”, as an emotive guitar line forms a smooth, stylish foundation for BLK’s seductive lyrics.

Accompanied by a music video, “ODEE” is a play on irony. It’s presented by 3 flashy jewelry dealers who are robbed by a group of heist women & their boss. The women are thought to be their companions for the evening, but realistically they are the perfect distraction to men who use money and possessions to attract women. The theme of the video heavily addresses the lifestyle of lusting and using money & status to attract women feeding unhealthy sexual addictions.

Drawing influence from OutKast, Funkadelic and D’Angelo, BLK ODYSSY was heavily inspired by Kendrick Lamar’s seminal album To Pimp A Butterfly. Creating songs as a means of healing and inspiring his community, BLK ODYSSY’s musical output expresses grief, trauma while providing a critique of what it means to be black in America. His critically acclaimed debut album, BLK VINTAGE, was a culturally insightful body of work exploring the plight of Black Americans, released in 2021 and re-released via EMPIRE. The LP included collaborations with Mereba, Benny the Butcher, George Clinton, and Baby Rose, amassing over 45 million streams across platforms. Following its worldwide success, BLK went on to perform a 2022 headline tour, receiving support from major tastemakers including Billboard, Spin, Essence & NPR.

With two wildly impressive singles already out, fans of BLK ODYSSY are in for more news to come very soon.

Asian-American rappers Star2, ChinaTownRunner, and $tupid Young release the new single / video entitled “FWM”. The single precedes Star2 and ChinaTownRunner’s upcoming EP and sets the bar high with haunting cavernous beats and dark melodic flow.

Each of them affirm that they are “about money” in their separate verses and all ask listeners to “come and F*** With Me.” The music video for “FWM” captures Star2, ChinaTownRunner, and $tupid Young in a graffiti-stroked garage full of sports cars and women. Leaning into the sheer magnitude of the track itself, the visuals for “FWM” zero in on each rapper for an intense performance.

Star2 and ChinaTownRunner are preparing to embark on a summer tour with $tupid Young set to appear at multiple dates. Additionally, Star2 and ChinaTownRunner will perform on July 6th in support of the annual Ka-ren Soccer Tournament and Concert in South Dakota.
