RXKNephew shares first professionally-directed music video for “Critical”

Published

on

The unconventional underground Hip-Hop star, RXKNephew, has just shared his first professional music video for “Critical”, off of his debut album, Till I’m DeadRXKNephew first went viral in 2020 after releasing his nearly 10-minute-long odyssey, “American tterrorist”, quickly gathering over a million streams on Spotify and showcasing his scattered genius and uniquely charismatic persona. After releasing hundreds of freestyles that feature his chaotic thought process and sense of humor, which have netted him shout-outs from The New York Times and The Washington Post among others, he made an appearance in an ad for Kerwin Frost’s Summer 2022 Adidas collection, and embarked on a successful North American tour. Earlier this year, the independent RXKNephew showed the world a brand new side of his artistry with Till I’m Dead – his most cohesive body of work to date. Highlighted by groovy Dance-inspired production provided to him by BrainstormTill I’m Dead is a unique culmination of his stream-of-consciousness raps, hurried flows and charismatic sense of humor over an eclectic batch of beats. In the words of HipHopDX“Till I’m Dead is neither for the algorithm nor force fed by the industry machine, bombarding us to listen. Instead, the album stands out for being completely original, allowing Neph’s eccentric personality to shine.”

Till I’m Dead‘s album cover is a play on Notorious B.I.G.‘s classic album, Ready to Die, and by dropping it on the anniversary of the icon’s death, RXKNephew is paying homage to Hip-Hop legends of the past while simultaneously carving out his very own chaotic yet artistically-distinct lane in Hip-Hop. The cinematic new video for “Critical” finds RXKNephew starring in his very first professionally-produced music video directed by Isaac Garcia, in which he’s the instigator of a dance party in an office setting – allowing his off-kilter bars and eccentric charisma to take centre stage. “Dance moves hittin’ so hard, shit crucial / Walk in that bitch, get critical”, he raps over the drum break and playful synths in the track’s hook. As he teaches his goofy dance moves to the office workers, they eventually get loose and follow Nephew’s suit – a testament to his contagious energy and infectious raps.

Lu’ (@ottawasveryown) is back with another one! He has been shaking things up in the music scene since his ground-breaking debut “FEVA,” released earlier in February this year. Now, he returns with another highly-anticipated single, “Over,” out now. This offering is accompanied with a music video & solidifies Lu’s mark in the music game with his captivating storytelling and infectious sound.

“Over” is another compelling feel good single that highlights Lu’s artistic identity and capability. “Over evokes pure enjoyment and immaculate summer vibes,” he says. He invites listeners into an irresistible musical experience through the Afrobeats sound. Drawing inspiration from English and French-speaking artists, as well as Congolese artists, he sets himself apart from the industry as a multilingual artist. The accompanying music video was shot in Lagos, Nigeria and offers a setting of African greatness, luxury, and an overall great time.

Originally hailing from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and now making waves in Phoenix, Arizona, Lu’ is a renowned Arizona Cardinals linebacker who made his musical debut earlier this year with his debut single, “FEVA.” Fighting the notion of “shut up and dribble,” Lu’ has shown that he’s far more multifaceted than just an average athlete. He shares, “The narrative of ‘shut up and dribble’ is one I’ve fought internally for a very long time. I want my audience to grasp how passionate I am about chasing my wildest dreams. You can’t let another person tell you, your dreams are too far unattainable.” Lu’ has been able to perfectly parallel his passion and dedication of being a talented athlete as well as a talented artist.

It’s worth noting that Lu’ is a definite powerhouse to keep an eye on as he continues to break barriers in both sports and music. His transition from sports to music is a prominent testament to him embracing his versatility, following his dreams, and reaching new heights. The unfolding musical journey of this rising Canadian artist is a must see.
