J. Stalin Renews His Mob Music Vows with ‘Prenuptial Agreement 2 (Deluxe)’

Published

on

Building a lasting legacy in the Bay Area with a steadfast dedication to his craft, J. Stalin embodies the hustle that underlies the mob music he helped make the dominant sound in his region. Today, the West Oakland native expands on the sequel to his scene-shifting classic, sharing Prenuptial Agreement 2 (Deluxe). Featuring appearances from San Francisco’s Lil Yee, L.A.’s Big Sad 1900, Oakland’s Mistah F.A.B., who appeared on the original Prenuptial Agreement in 2010, and more, Prenuptial Agreement 2 (Deluxe) is available everywhere via Livewire Records/EMPIRE.

Adding seven new tracks to the January project, Prenup 2 (Deluxe) stays true to form, rooted in the mob music grit of The Town. The Deluxe tracklist starts with “3 Minutes (Remix),” featuring a new verse from Mistah F.A.B., in which Stalin reflects on his mindset at the beginning of his career. Tracks like the Lil Yee-featuring “From My Heart” bleed with an impassioned dedication to the grind, while the Celly Ru-assisted “Slapped” delivers a late-night low-rider vibe to set the tone for extracurricular anthems like the aptly-titled “Presentation of Sexification” and the quasi-chivalrous “Until U Come Too,” featuring ibedakrse.

Along with the Deluxe, Stalin shares the video for “From My Heart” ft. Lil Yee. In the video for the emotional song, the Oakland and SF natives hole up in the trenches, counting cash and stressing the importance of loyalty.

The sequel to the 2010 breakout project that made him a regional star, Prenuptial Agreement 2 is a showcase for Stalin’s raspy vocals, brutally honest lyrics, and peerless ability to navigate mob instrumentals. Like the Pitchfork-acclaimed original, which brought guest spots from the likes of E-40 and The Jacka, Prenuptial Agreement brings an eclectic cast of characters, from fellow Oaklanders like Philthy Rich22nd Jim, and Jane Handcock standing up for the 357, and street heroes from other cities, like Florida’s Jackboy and Stockton’s EBK Young Joc, who sound right at home.

J. Stalin is celebrating the success of Prenuptial Agreement 2 and the release of the Deluxe with the Livewire Reunion Tour, hitting cities across the West Coast. The tour reunites the original Livewire Records crew, including Bay Area royalty Philthy Rich and Lil Blood. The Livewire Reunion Tour hits Club Insomnia in Oakland on May 19th and May 20th.

Loyal to the grind and his family, J. Stalin is building a legacy for himself and the Oakland scene he hails from. With Prenuptial Agreement 2 (Deluxe), the proudly independent artist cements his rightful place in Bay Area history.
