DC The Don Shares “12AM,” a Late Night Dispatch from ‘FUNERAL’
DC The Don dazzles with his ambitious concepts and versatile vocals, absorbing sounds from various styles and molding them as he sees fit. Sharing a wistful and defiant dispatch from tour life, DC shares “12AM,” the latest single from his upcoming album FUNERAL. A dramatic and propulsive anthem for late nights, “12AM” combines rippling pianos with heavy-duty percussion, augmenting the hook with a seven-beat snare pattern to launch the song into the stratosphere. Alternating plaintive melodies and hard-nosed rhymes, the Milwaukee native tells a tale of missed calls and five star flexes, as he reflects on the highs and lows of life on the road: “You can’t meet me in my motherf*cking city, I be hardly there.”

Featuring evocative song titles like “Bankrupt :/,” URGENT!.” and “Fight Or Flight đ,” FUNERAL is an immersive look inside the DC The Don’s world of hard-edged raps and hyperpop melodies, skillfully blending the two sides of his personality that dominated each half of last year’s ambitious My Own Worst Enemy. Over the course of the 16-track album, DC works with a core crew of producers to craft a danceable, uptempo new sound that incorporates elements of club, trap, bubblegum pop, emo, dubstep, and everything else that catches the omnivorous rapper’s fancy. The latest step in the artist’s evolution, DC The Don’s FUNERAL arrives on May 5th via Rostrum Records.
The release “12AM” continues a busy year for the 23-year-old rapper. In March, DC turned back the clock when he re-released his 2018 mixtape DC DAHMER, adding two standout new songs: the lilting and heartfelt “Mood Swings!,” produced by Trademark, and the transporting, guitar-led “LSD Freestyle.” In January, DC released the endlessly creative original mixtape SACRED HEART (+), home to standouts like âSRT / UMBRELLAâ and âSHUTUP!â Following in the wake of 2022’s “FUNERAL Tour,” DC plans to hit the road again this May, as he joins $NOT on his “Get Busy Or Die Tour,” where he will be a supporting act alongside Night Lovell and Eem Triplin.
