DJ Icon OG Ron C + TX Artist Johnny Cocoa for ‘I Am Who I AM’ (Chopped and Screwed) EP Release

Published

on

Texas hip-hop artist Johnny Cocoa debuted his collaboration with prolific DJ and GRAMMY-nominated producer, OG Ron C for the I AM WHO I AM Chopped and Screwed EP release.

Layering in the signature styles of chopped and screwed remixing, OG Ron C transforms the soulful nine-track project delivered through slowed, rhythmic iterations of Johnny’s verses interpolated with hard-hitting trap beats.

“It’s an honor to be able to collaborate with legacy artists like OG Ron C,” said Johnny Cocoa. “We had a lot of fun collaborating on the remix of this EP. Some of the sounds you hear bring out a new way to experience this album tells which I’m excited for fans to hear.”

“I see a lot of promise in where Johnny goes next as an artist,” said OG Ron C. “His authenticity in the stories he shares with the world is what makes him unique and what drew me to this album. He also has a sound you can’t really put in one singular box which is what made the chopped and screwed version of this release so dynamic.”

In tandem with the chopped and screwed EP release, Johnny Cocoa will also be unveiling the debut music video for “Prayerful Thoughts” from the album Monday, March 27. The music video release tells the story of Johnny’s relentless dedication in pursuing his dreams. Set on an empty rooftop against the city skyline, Johnny delivers a melodic flow as the visual shuffles between contemplative close ups of Johnny riding through the city to glimmering takes of his hometown and community.

I AM WHO I AM features Johnny’s massively successful breakout single “On God” (which earned the attention and public cosign from musical icons Drake and Ye) alongside lead track “Free Bird.”

The EP release also includes work from leading producers such as Yung Tago (prod. for Rod Wave, YG, YNW Melly, Rylo Rodriguez, Fredo Bang), Coop The Truth (Cordae, Summer Walker, NBA Youngboy, Vory, Tory Lanez), Dylan Graham (Muni Long, Summer Walker, Young M.A, Chris Brown) and collaborative appearances from artists like Kalan.FrFr. The project is a follow up to Johnny’s first album, To The World released in 2021

Representing Beaumont, Texas, Johnny continues to make his mark as the next rising artist to break out of the south with a unique sound that blends intricate rap styles with smooth R&B flows – all inspired by his deep childhood roots singing in church. Johnny’s adept cross-genre fusion of hip-hop, R&B and tones of reggae is inspired by icons such as James Brown, Russ, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Drake, and J Cole while rooted in messages of Black power, unity, self-love and the positive progress of society. Johnny continues to carve out his own lane in the music industry with the promise of becoming the world’s next breakthrough sound.
