J. Lock Is Ready To Go Next Level

Published

on

J. Lock is a true student of the game. His versatility is as strong as his will to create fire music. The Mississippi-born recording artist has been recently honing his skills in Atlanta. Since 2021, J. Lock has become a more notable name in the music space. Lock is a great learner and knows how to make a fire song for the ladies. His fanbase is steadily rising, and plenty of people are ready to see him win. His newest single is coming out soon, so we wanted to connect with him ahead of it.

Check out our dope conversation with J. Lock here below!

What city are you from/ Where are you based now?

I’m from Forest, Mississippi. I moved to Atlanta in 2021 when I turned 18 for music and my label Stoner Road Music. There’s been so much movement and growth since I made the transition. I’m glad I did.

What made you choose the artist name?

One of the reasons for my choice of name was because I wanted something similar to one of my favorite artists J. Cole, but also because it was close to my biological name.

You make a lot of music for the ladies. Tell us the story behind “Selfish” for those who have yet to listen.

The name speaks for itself, but “Selfish” is about a guy who wants to be with a girl and doesn’t want anybody else to have her. He’s selfish for her.

Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?

Of course. My upbringing taught me discipline, patience, drive, and a lot more. My mom taught us to go after anything we want and to work hard for it. When she left to serve in the military to give my siblings and I a better life, that’s when I knew I had to step up and take my career seriously. The jazz and blues that my family always played in Mississippi influenced my music heavy. It’s also where I discovered Motown Records.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may need to become more familiar with you?

My sound depends on the season. I would describe it as melodic, lyrical, even wavy and smooth when it comes to certain tracks.

What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?

If you want to do something and really do it, you should be dedicated and committed. I always had a love for music and I knew I wanted to take it seriously and make a name for myself in this industry.

Your videos are movie quality, why is it so important to provide dope visuals in today’s music space?

Thank you, I appreciate that. Visuals have always been important in music. It’s important because your vision for the song comes to life in a creative and artistic way. Your audience gets to see your vision for the song and it has to be great quality. Something they won’t forget.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?

I love to play basketball and workout. I also like to watch tv when I get time. To stay creative, I just try to be present and to live and take everything in.

What were you doing before music?

Well before I was signed to Stoner Road Music, I was working at Wendy’s and McDonald’s. Using that money to fund my music career. Kids today need to know that a hustle is a hustle and not to feel discouraged for doing a regular job. As long as you stay focused and believe in yourself, big things can happen for you.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

J.Cole, Drake , Kendrick Lamar

What are some of your music career goals for the future?

My goal is to constantly get better at my craft and be the best artist I can be. And of course, I’m looking forward to many plaques and musical accolades. I was just in LA for Grammy week. We went to a lot of industry events and Grammy parties. I hope to be nominated for one someday.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.

What’s next for me is still dropping hard singles for the fans. Fans should be on the lookout for “Selfish” ft RL, it’s a great track. As far as projects we shall see.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music?

It’s okay to be the way you are, as long as you’re honest and truthful to whatever you believe in.

Lil $o$o Releases New Visual “Passion”

Published

on

Enlisting Sexyy Red director Suave Films for the Remdolla produced small screen interpretation, Lil $o$o signals a compelling exploration beyond her usual Rap style and leans into the realm of R&B with the release of “Passion.” Following “Enhancements,” the timely track unveils a vulnerable dimension that showcases her versatility as an artist. With emotive lyrics and a smooth melody, “Passion” shines light on a deeper layer of $o$o’s artistry, inviting listeners into a journey of introspection and raw emotion.

In a press statement to Medium Creative Agency about single, the Issa Rae-approved “Florida Girl” reveals: “I love this record because it really shows another side of me. Sometimes, I feel like people are so materialistic or surface level, and I really am starting to see that ‘real’ is rare. I hope to find something deeper than that and that’s what made me put that into my music.”

There’s something in the water. From the City Girls to Kodak Black, with a long list of others, the Sunshine State has been the stomping ground for hip-hop’s culture shifters. Entertainer Lil $o$o is looking to keep that tradition alive. Despite being native to Chicago, since moving to Miami in her early childhood, she’s proudly claimed it as her musical home.

The 22-year-old Colombiana, whose real name is Sofia Donado, has persevered through trauma and pain and continues to show up for herself and her 3-year-old son, who she’s raising as a single mom. Lil $o$o’s boyfriend was gunned down in 2019, while sitting in his car, leaving her without a partner and their son without a father. He was in the music business, and after his passing, Lil $o$o found healing in discovering her musical voice. The result was upbeat rhythms intended to make people dance, smile, and feel free. It was the only way she knew how to make things better.

After laying the groundwork with promo singles “Better Life,” “Go Ooh,” “Bad Attitude,” and “Woo Tang,” the rising rapstress made her official debut Summer of 2022 with ‘$o$o World.’ Executive produced by mentor and label head LunchMoney Lewis, the 14-track collection of records includes additional instrumentation from JulianBeatz, SFL Xavi, TheonlyDiet, Toju, BrianXWhite, Diem, and SoundsbyBreezy. Guest features come by way of Roc Nation recording artist Bobby Fishscale, XXXTentacion affiliate C Glizzy, Warner Records vocalist Savannah Cristina, and Nelle.

Black Skywalker Drops Anticipated ‘I Need Therapy’ EP

Published

on

Black Skywalker, the rising artist with an undeniable buzz, drops his debut EP, I Need Therapy.

The new project promises to usher in the new era of hip-hop. “Rap music is in a dark place and I came to bring the light,” said Skywalker. “The type of music I make is best described as Outer Space Jedi-level rap shit.”

Black Skywalker and Chris Rosa produced the debut EP featuring the focus track “Pills and Alcohol”. The single describes a man battling depression and anxiety with prescription medicine and champagne.

The EP includes hard-hitting 808s, crackling snares, and spacey synths. “We in Love” is a melodic record with a bouncy bass and drums. However, the lyrics depict a flawed relationship due to social media and porn addiction.

Black Skywalker’s ‘Pain of Letting Go’ has huge production and raw guitar. The lyrics express deep emotion and heartbreak, making the EP’s inspiration very clear.

“Therapy” is a song that touches on the struggles of life and the importance of seeking help. The production is interesting, with dark verses and uplifting hooks. The second verse highlights the benefits of opening up to a therapist and encourages others to do the same.

“Slide with Me” is a standout track from the EP with great production and an infectious hook. It narrates the story of falling in love with the woman of your dreams and has an upbeat vibe that sets it apart from the rest of the EP.

EP delivers a relatable conversation, amazing production, and intentional songwriting. Black Skywalker calls it outer space Jedi-level rap music.
