Meet the artists behind Detroit Cinematic

Published

on

It’s not everyday that two generations get to team up to create history. The emerging, yet accredited producer The ATG is bringing together some of Detroit’s elite for a Hip-Hop compilation album entitled, Detroit Cinematic Album.. The young producer The ATG is ready to carry the city on his back, highlighting some of the best talent. The artist is set to release the album in its full entirety soon. In the meantime, his team is releasing a slew of infectious singles (with visuals) to begin the pulse of anticipation. The project is executive produced by Detroit’s Joe Robinson and the first single Overdue, features Grammy-nominated Earlly Mac (worked with Big Sean, Saweetie, Beyonce, etc.) and the rising IMBUNLEE.

Check out our latest interview here below!

The ATG: When putting out this collaboration project – in honor of our city – how did you determine which artists to personally select. Can you give readers some insight on this process? Joe Robinson is listed as an exec producer – what role did he play?

My goal with this project was to work with upcoming talent from the city, and Joe Robinson made that goal a reality. He scouted for talent from the city, and he also lent his hand in the curation of the project.

The ATG: What do you think is special about Detroit’s music scene? How would you compare our artists and sound in contrast to other places you’ve visited?

To me there are two things unique about Detroit. One would be the fact that it is the birthplace of a lot of musical movements: whether that be Motown, techno, or even Detroit street rap. Another would be the crystal clear diction that many artists from Detroit have, it’s definitely an overlooked factor that helped give birth to superstars.

Earlly Mac: Have you worked with imbunlee before? Was he an artist you hand selected?

Bun is in my inner circle so we’ve worked together frequently.

Earlly Mac: You’ve had success behind the scenes, Do you prefer being in the limelight or songwriting?

I prefer both lol

Earlly Mac + The ATG: How did the creativity flow in the studio? Can you both briefly describe the creative process behind Detroit Cinematic?

The interesting part about “Overdue” is the fact that we actually started off with a different instrumental, but I then actually created a different instrumental to really highlight Earlly Mac’s flow and timbre. Interestingly enough, I actually used a similar process throughout the album. I wanted to ensure that the instrumentals complimented the vocals.

What’s the official release date for Detroit Cinematic and can fans expect a visual for ‘Overdue’?

Official release date for the album is Friday, December 30th & the “Overdue” music video drops Friday, Dec 16th.

All talent: (ATG, Earlly, ImBunLee) – Who are some Detroit artists/producers you grew up being influenced by? (The ATG)

Growing up, I was definitely influenced by the storytelling, aggression, humor, and the skill of Eminem. Nowadays, I’ve also found inspiration from Detroit icons such as J Dilla, Berry Gordy, and even Madonna. (Earlly Mac) My fav Detroit producers are Dilla, Young Rj, IcePic, Helluva. (imbunlee) I grew up influenced by artists like Blade, Stretch Money, Juan and Eminem. I’ll say Blade & Em influenced me the most.

Black Skywalker Drops Anticipated ‘I Need Therapy’ EP

Published

on

Black Skywalker, the rising artist with an undeniable buzz, drops his debut EP, I Need Therapy.

The new project promises to usher in the new era of hip-hop. “Rap music is in a dark place and I came to bring the light,” said Skywalker. “The type of music I make is best described as Outer Space Jedi-level rap shit.”

Black Skywalker and Chris Rosa produced the debut EP featuring the focus track “Pills and Alcohol”. The single describes a man battling depression and anxiety with prescription medicine and champagne.

The EP includes hard-hitting 808s, crackling snares, and spacey synths. “We in Love” is a melodic record with a bouncy bass and drums. However, the lyrics depict a flawed relationship due to social media and porn addiction.

Black Skywalker’s ‘Pain of Letting Go’ has huge production and raw guitar. The lyrics express deep emotion and heartbreak, making the EP’s inspiration very clear.

“Therapy” is a song that touches on the struggles of life and the importance of seeking help. The production is interesting, with dark verses and uplifting hooks. The second verse highlights the benefits of opening up to a therapist and encourages others to do the same.

“Slide with Me” is a standout track from the EP with great production and an infectious hook. It narrates the story of falling in love with the woman of your dreams and has an upbeat vibe that sets it apart from the rest of the EP.

EP delivers a relatable conversation, amazing production, and intentional songwriting. Black Skywalker calls it outer space Jedi-level rap music.
