Rooted In Music, Elijah LeFlore finds Inspiration at an early age
Coming from the Southside of Chicago, Elijah LeFlore grew up surrounded by musical and creative influences. His mother a talented poet and writer, gave him a natural ability to capture a feeling through language. Also skilled in playing instruments like the violin and trumpet, his love for harmonic sounds is a direct reflection of his musical mastery. With additional influence from legends like Micheal Jackson, Prince and Kanye, Elijah’s music aims at bridging the gap between classic and modern hip-hop and rnb.
In 2016 he released his first studio single Last Night in LA, a smooth and electronic rnb jam. He followed up with the mesmerizing EP Sunset Radio, a 9 track compilation of hypnotic tunes. Elijah’s sound is poetic yet polished, as he finds new ways to express his creativity. Aside from his natural musical ability, his talented filmmaking skills further drive him to produce cinematic experiences. The cover art for both Sunset Radio and Midnight Summer paint such a vivid depiction, adding more essence to the vibe Elijah LeFlore brings.
Midnight Summer is a Breath of Fresh Air
With the release of the EP, Elijah LeFlore’s fan base grows by the minute as his sound covers so many different genres. Midnight Summer explores emotional yet positive themes and moments with just seven singles. Starting off with the single of the same EP name Midnight Summer, is a techno/rnb mix serenade. The illuminating track Woman released prior to the album is a melodic ballad with an 80’s undertone you can’t help but love. Other songs like Shining and Sunshine (Interlude), show off a new kind of neo-soul sound.
With skillful production by Ro Marsalis & Wildlife Willy, Midnight Summer is a cinematic and striking musical experience. Black Skywalker, the rising artist with an undeniable buzz, drops his debut EP, I Need Therapy.
The new project promises to usher in the new era of hip-hop. “Rap music is in a dark place and I came to bring the light,” said Skywalker. “The type of music I make is best described as Outer Space Jedi-level rap shit.”
Black Skywalker and Chris Rosa produced the debut EP featuring the focus track “Pills and Alcohol”. The single describes a man battling depression and anxiety with prescription medicine and champagne.
The EP includes hard-hitting 808s, crackling snares, and spacey synths. “We in Love” is a melodic record with a bouncy bass and drums. However, the lyrics depict a flawed relationship due to social media and porn addiction.
Black Skywalker’s ‘Pain of Letting Go’ has huge production and raw guitar. The lyrics express deep emotion and heartbreak, making the EP’s inspiration very clear.
“Therapy” is a song that touches on the struggles of life and the importance of seeking help. The production is interesting, with dark verses and uplifting hooks. The second verse highlights the benefits of opening up to a therapist and encourages others to do the same.
“Slide with Me” is a standout track from the EP with great production and an infectious hook. It narrates the story of falling in love with the woman of your dreams and has an upbeat vibe that sets it apart from the rest of the EP.
EP delivers a relatable conversation, amazing production, and intentional songwriting. Black Skywalker calls it outer space Jedi-level rap music.
