Today, singer, rapper and songwriter pineappleCITI teams up with production duo The 87s for their collaborative single, “Phoenix.” Out now via Red Bull Records, the release will serve as the official anthem for this year’s Wings for Life World Run, with proceeds from the song benefitting the Wings for Life Foundation in its mission toward finding a cure for spinal cord injuries. 
 
With a timeless, old-school hip-hop flair, the emotionally charged track stays true to its title, with pineappleCITI’s nimble lyricism reflecting on her own personal struggles she’s worked to overcome. Opening with a soulful gospel chorus, the production builds and swells as CITI raps and sings over the heavy-hitting beat. 
 
The release of “Phoenix” and the mission of Wings for Life resonates deeply for both pineappleCITI and The 87s’ own Mike Mac. Having each defied the odds after being told they may never walk again, both artists had to face seemingly insurmountable challenges, fighting their way through rehabilitation to come back stronger than ever.  
 
Taking place on Sunday, May 9 at the exact same time (11AM UTC / 7AM EST / 4AM PST), runners, walkers, wheelchair participants, and charitable supporters from around the world can participate in the eighth edition of the Wings for Life World Run. Since its launch in 2014, the Wings for Life World Run gathers to run for those who can’t, with a shared goal of finding a cure for spinal cord injuries. So far, a grand total of 700,000 participants from 195 countries have registered for the runs and have logged a total of over 4 million miles while raising over 35 million dollars.
