2KBABY closed out 2022 strong and looks to be ready for a 2023 takeover. The Louisville super star is back with more raw storytelling on his new single “Don’t Love Me Now”. The track features Seattle phenom charlieonnafriday, who took 2022 by storm and adds to the passionate emotion of 2K’s piece of art. Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in America. The new offering was created during a dark time in the young artist’s life where he felt defeated, like the world was against him and he had no one to lean on. Losing his father from suicide, 2KBaby was lost while having his own battles to fight. Today the artist brings us this record in a stronger state of mind, knowing that although battles in life will exist, he needs to continue to be there for himself.
On the poignant “Don’t Love Me Now,” 2K dives right into his past with lines like “I was just invisible, thought I wouldn’t be nuthin’,” he bravely admits. charlieonnafriday sings over a soft acoustic riff “I’m so used to being alone … so don’t love me now.” This prompts 2K’s aim isn’t just at his former self, though, but at others now eyeing his success.
“Don’t Love Me Now” is 2K’s first release of the year, following a standout 2022 capped off by his Lil Wayne-inspired mixtape Sorry For The Hate and a string of emotional singles including “Stand Love” and “Rain.” With “Don’t Love Me Now,” 2K proves he’ll never forget his past—no matter how bright his future is looking. ‘Taste Buds’ is a 25 track LP where Swendal mixes life experiences along with dope bars and metaphors that fans of good music can enjoy at any setting.
It’s a certain level of maturity from Swendal which fans of good music can really enjoy. The passion of his tone and level of wordplay is reminiscent of such as Dom Kennedy, the late Nipsey Hussle, and Blxst. However he is his own artist and should be appreciated as such.
