Bay Area Spotlight: @NBSslimmyB and @remedy415 create a catchy single with “No Funk”

Published

on

It appears that “No Smoke” is no longer the socially acceptable slang for avoiding problems. When this move away from the term occurred, no one can be sure. It’s clear that, at least to Slimmy B of SOB x ROE, that “No Fonk” has replaced the  term; at least on his new fiercely addicting song, aptly titled “No Fonk.” Built around a simple but catchy refrain in “You don’t want no fonk with me dawg,” Slimmy and Remedy create something so enticing that you’ll want to play it over and over again. The production follows the refrain in terms of simplicity but is ultimately more complex than it lets on. This all adds together to being one of our favorite tracks of 2018 so far.

@Pluto__Mars motivates the masses in “Love Yourself, You’ll Get There”

Published

There’s a ton of self-help books lining the shelves of your local bookstore. Popular works such as 48 Laws Of Power and Rich Dad Poor Dad are immensely helpful in elevating one’s confidence and awareness of the universe, but they’re older and somewhat wordy. The average person isn’t going to check it out. Maybe, the future of self-help is in music. Pluto Mars, a Bay Area artist with a nice mix of rap and singing capabilities, has released an interesting new cut called “Love Yourself, You’ll Get There,” that’s all about motivating the listener to make the best of themselves, using his own personal experiences and anecdotes to drive the message home. Instead of coming off as preachy, it actually sounds damn good.

@PhilthyRichFOD and @Tee_Grizzley rep their cities in “My Shit”

Published

on

This new slap from Philthy Rich and Tee Grizzley and the joint cut that we didn’t know we needed, but makes so much sense now that it’s here. Philthy’s stylish flow and Grizzley’s technical delivery combine for an interesting juxtaposition that makes the song boldly original. The production is more methodical than their previous works, causing both to have to recalculate their approach to the beat. But they manage to work out any possible kinks that could have arisen and created a great song that’s as catchy as it is hard-hitting.

Songstress Edna and Zaydoe make magic happen “Loving You”

Published

on

Songstress Edna is straight from the Bay Area, but her lovingly-crafted to hit “Loving You” wouldn’t seem to indicate so. She prefers her music a little slower, more methodical, and much more emotional. On her new cut, she sings with passion, pouring her heart out on wax. Zaydoe’s raps play off her singing perfectly, creating a perfectly balanced single that’s for when you feel like exposing your emotions, not when you’re blasting music in the car.
