Virginia-based Recording Artist, @Saekyii Offers a Nostalgic Ride On ‘Sunset Demos’ EP

Through the Highs and Self-Destructive Lows of Past Relationships on New 6-Track EP, ‘Sunset Demo’s

Virginia-bred, Alternative Hip-Hop artist, Sækyi, first began to make waves in Summer 2019 when his “Speak Easy” single was featured in two of Spotify’s editorial playlists. Since then, the Ghanian-American rapper has dropped several loosies including the romantic, audible-time capsule, “Girls,” and the cathartic, 808-thumping “Free Fall,” the latter of which serves as the lead single for his dynamic, new EP, Sunset Demo’s

Though he is no stranger to introspective rhymes on love, Sunset Demo’s has a much more distinctive approach, as Sækyi reflects on the highs and self-destructive lows of previous relationships. From the use of warm, immersive melodies on “Apt. 706” featuring singer Eric Penn, to using low pitch vocal distortion for raw, moody records like “Kink” where sticky punchlines conceal his insecurity, Sunset Demo’s is a personal, yet remarkable introduction to Sækyi’s artistry.

“Sunset Demos is really me working through the stages of love or a relationship. With me pulling from my personal past experiences and piecing together this loose narrative. Every song is something I’ve felt, done, or thought of before. So this tape really is just a summary of my love life,”

– Sækyi

Despite the brevity of the 6-track body of work, the 15-minute-long EP is far from shallow in terms of content. Confiding in listeners on this intimate journey, Sækyi offers a cohesive collection of songs that’s just as ruminative as the lyrics. “It’s so hard / To feel like you ain’t holding on anymore / Sunset was the only place for me/ I stood next to you so faithfully,” Sækyi croons in anguish on the guitar-driven “Sunset Blvd.”

Effortlessly weaving both his vulnerability and confidence into a wide sonic range of instrumentation, Sækyi has arrived with Sunset Demo’s. If the EP is any indication of what’s to come, the VA native will likely be around for quite some time, and his growth will be as enthralling as well…a sunset itself.

Kamos Unveils New EP, ‘828 Vol.3’

Published

on

Kamos delivers the third installment in his 828 EP series. Following the release of Volume 1 and 2, Volume 3 proves to be the BX emcee’s most introspective body of work to date. Touching on the topics of losing a loved one, economic woes, marriage, fatherhood, and work-life balance, the 3-track collection of songs features additional production from Beatsmith, Mike Lakes, Affy Avenue, and Reece Benjamin.

Detailing the significance of his latest drop in a press statement, the NYC lyricist shares:

“V3 is the first project where I speak candidly about the passing of my daughter, financial hardships, and get super vulnerable with my emotions.”

Hailing from The Bronx borough of New York City, C.K Reid, bka rapper/producer Kamos, is a self-taught musician who began his journey in the arts at the age of three. Always infatuated with the soulful sounds that come from music, his dad saw his passion for Hip-Hop as a youth and installed FL Studio on their family computer when he was nine. Shortly after he became familiar with the production software, Kamos’ father helped him transform his bedroom into a home studio.

In 2014, Kamos generated internet buzz with his nostalgic record “MYFB.” He shortly followed with “Own Supply,” a twist to Notorious B.I.G.’s “Ten Crack Commandments,” and then “Better Doe.” Kamos continued to build and perfect his sound, working with local talent as a producer for their records. Now focused fully on being a recording artist, in 2022 he released Volume 1 of his EP series 828. Volume 2 was released earlier this year in January.
