Rapper / Actor Jharrel Jerome Drops “Someone I’m Not”
Hip-hop artist and award-winning actor Jharrel Jerome returns to the music world with the release of his second single, “Someone I’m Not.” The track was written by Jerome & Marcos “Kosine” Palacios and produced by Kosine for Internz University.
Out now, “Someone I’m Not” marks the Moonlight and When They See Us star’s first foray back into music since the release of “For Real” feat. Kemba in 2020, which was produced by Take A Daytrip and earned critical acclaim from The FADER, Billboard, UPROXX, Essence, BuzzFeed, and more.
Jerome shared exclusively with The FADER about the new track: “Before I put all my cards on the table, and go all in with the music, I’ve decided to rip a page out of my mental journal and share it with you. My last release was almost two years ago. Since then, I’ve journeyed deeper within myself in an attempt to answer my most important question; Who Am I Really? This isn’t just a song for me, it’s more of a journal passage. My own audio therapy session. Addressing my biggest fears, my hardest questions, my deepest thoughts. Wondering if I am slowly, but gradually, becoming someone I’m not. And if so, is it my fault or yours?”
The track allows Jerome’s smooth flowing verses to sit on top of a classic R&B rhythm, giving his captivating words the front and center attention deserved. Meanwhile, the video for this enigmatic track, also released today, was Creative Directed by Jerome, with Allius Barnes in the Director’s chair.
This summer, Jerome performed a full set live at BottleRock Napa Valley 2022 on the Allianz Stage.
