Nikky Bourbon Debuts Feminist Anthem “Diosa”

Published

on

The mesmerizing and versatile artist Nikky Bourbon proudly proclaims her ancestral power in her single “Diosa,” an anthem of Latinx female empowerment celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. The song releases on October 7th, 2022, with Symphonic Distribution and is available across all music/streaming platforms.

Growing up Espiritista with relatives in Santeria, “Diosa” is written from Bourbon’s spiritual perspective and references herself with “Sangre de Diosa” (blood of a goddess). The Latinx singer-songwriter wrote the song as a feminist anthem for LGBTQ+ women of color to embrace their collective inner strength. “‘Diosa,’ is the divine feminine. It represents connectedness with the universe and our power as women. It’s such a positive word to describe us in a world that loves to tear us down,” says Bourbon of her new song.

Diosa” showcases the versatility of Nikky Bourbon, powerfully re-writing the societal norms of what it means to be a Latinx female artist. In “Diosa,” Bourbon feels more personal and vulnerable by sharing a side of herself that she has not shown before. Yet, Nikky Bourbon also evokes a feeling of being strong, good, sexy, and empowered. The emotional process is the Nuyorican artist’s unpacking of her childhood experiences with religion and spirituality as an adult today. In addition, Nikky Bourbon wants to “… shed light on the beauty of my religion and culture so that we can create a space for Espiritistas to feel safe and accepted in society.”

In the wake of Hurricane Fiona, Nikky Bourbon is working endlessly to help support her family, friends, and community in Puerto Rico. After extensive research, Bourbon realized the failed attempts to distribute resources to residents and the logistical nightmare after Hurricane Maria destroyed Puerto Rico five years ago. As a result, Nikky Bourbon has partnered with El Grito, a nonprofit organization specializing in collecting, distributing, and shipping for Puerto Rico relief. El Grito is best known as one of the few nonprofits that had successful operations during Hurricane Maria and shipped 13 containers of needed supplies such as generators, solar panels, medical supplies, etc.

Aside from the partnership with El Grito, Nikky Bourbon also set up a GoFundMe account where she will continuously donate and is open to anyone who wants to contribute. Additionally, Nikky Bourbon has taken it upon herself to do critical outreach to all charities and nonprofits she finds trying to provide Hurricane Fiona relief. Further, Nikky Bourbon has begun working with H&F Logistics to provide education and information to other organizations that need a better strategy to get relief aid to arrive on time. Considering the dismay of past hurricanes, such as Hurricane Maria, Nikky Bourbon’s overall mission is to create a more logically sound operation for all relief aid arriving in Puerto Rico.
