Brooklyn Breakout DUSTY LOCANE Wilds Out in Debut Album ‘UNTAMED’

Published

on

DUSTY LOCANE‘s booming rasp reverberated throughout the Five Boroughs in 2021, the 22-year-old artist scoring hit after hit en route to over 250 million streams. Now ready to show the world the full extent of his artistic prowess, the Canarsie rapper shares UNTAMEDhis hotly-anticipated debut album. Though he rhymes with plenty of force, DUSTY’s flavor of drill stands apart because of its deep musicality–DUSTY attacks beats with a sonorous sing-song flow, often backed up by ethereal and haunting vocal samples. Spanning 20 tracks, the album benefits from the artist’s stark and aggressive lyricism, as he shows fierce loyalty to his suvies and promises a rough time for anyone who dares cross him.

The new album is home to DUSTY’s GOLD-certified breakout hit “ROLLIN N CONTROLLIN FREESTYLE,” an eerily melodic banger that generated over 200 million combined streams, as well as follow-up smashes like “Rolando (Caught In The Rain)” and “RUMBLE” that dropped earlier this year and still can be heard blaring out of car stereos from Bed Stuy to Bay Ridge. DUSTY’s hit single ROLLIN N CONTROLLIN PT. 2 (PICTURE ME) is currently scorching hot on TikTok, trending at #9 on the app’s list of Top Trending U.S. Songs. Just last month, DUSTY shared a hair-raising video for CANES WORLD,” as DUSTY opened up about his life in the trenches and his motivations to leave that life in the past.

Beyond the hits, the project introduces new bangers like the apocalyptic,  guitar-flecked “ICED OUT,” the thug love anthem “WHAT YOU NEED,” and the Canarsie neighborhood theme song “FLOSS STATE OF MIND.” Featuring appearances from Yung BleuOBN JayRah Swish, and more, UNTAMED is available everywhere via EMPIRE.

DUSTY LOCANE has been rapidly climbing up the NYC rap ladder, powered by the success of “ROLLIN N CONTROLLIN” and its follow-up singles. DUSTY’s second single, the follow-up hit “Rolando (Caught In The Rain),”proved that the WOO-affiliated rapper’s success was no fluke, racking up over 1 million YouTube views and 1 million Spotify streams in its first week and earning praise from Pitchfork. Both “ROLLIN & CONTROLLIN” and “Rolando” peaked in the Top 5 of Rolling Stone’s Trending 25 chart, and his third single INTRO 2 ME, PT. 1” peaked in that chart’s top 10. On just his first four singles, the rapper racked up over 250 million combined audio and visual on-demand streams.

With his debut album under his belt and the streets of Brooklyn on his back, DUSTY LOCANE is a great bet to reach the upper echelons of rap stardom.

Grainy, powerful, and effortlessly melodic, Morray’s voice is purpose-built for delivering inspirational bars about the struggle. Digging deep into his pre-fame life over a booming Southside beat, Morray shares Ticket,” his new single. Singing his heart out in short melodic bursts, Morray paints the contours of Southside’s instrumental with bars that contrast his past life “in the gutter” with his current life as a rising rap star. The Fayetteville, NC native combines his natural storytelling instinct with his knack for pithy one-liners: “I don’t have no siblings, so miss me with that brother sh*t,” he spits.

“Ticket” continues Morray’s upward trajectory, marked by new music, sold-out tour dates, and numerous award nominations. The new banger is Morray’s first single since Momma’s Love,” the heartfelt Mother’s Day anthem, which followed the poignant Still Here” ft. Cordae. Morray attended his first GRAMMY Awards this year, where he earned nominations for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance, each honoring him for his involvement in J. Cole’s “m y l i f e” (also featuring 21 Savage).

The two GRAMMY nominations are the culmination of a meteoric rise that started with “Quicksand,” a GOLD-certified hit that reached the Billboard Hot 100 and Jimmy Kimmel Live, and his critically acclaimed debut album Street Sermons, which propelled Morray to #1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart. Morray joined J. Cole on “The Off-Season Tour,” rocking sold-out crowd in a series of stadium dates. Morray was a standout performer at DreamVille Fest earlier this year and he reached a personal milestone in June, when he performed at Fayetteville’s Juneteenth Jubilee, marking his first-ever performance as a headliner in his hometown.

Starting in September, you can catch Morray on tour with Kevin Gates on the “Big Lyfe” Tour. Buy tickets HERE.
