Big Moochie Grape Keeps the Money Handy in “Cotton Candy”

Published

The more gigantic Big Moochie Grape gets, the harder he balls. Telling off the opps while sweet-talking their girlfriends, the Paper Route Empire artist shares his new video for the Bandplay-produced banger “Cotton Candy,” from his recent East Haiti Baby project. The unmistakably Memphis track finds Moochie bouncing over muted bells, stealing hearts and playing his part as he raps, “Throw a lot of bullets call me Big Moochie Manning/Got rich, f****d his b****, now he can’t stand me.” The video is just as drenched in pink and blue hues as the money glued to Moochie’s palms throughout the clip, even as he engages in explicit extracurriculars, putting that Moochie mojo on full display.

Aided by signature Tennessee-style production from BandplaySosa 808Ayoza, and more, East Haiti Baby Moochie’s rise from the trap to the top, showcasing the street acumen and sly grin that has him rising in his city and beyond. East Haiti Baby is home to Moochie’s ice-cold singles “I’m The One” and “Never Had Sh*t,” each of which earned well over 1.5 million views on Youtube in recent weeks. Continuing a dominant year for Paper Route Empire as they honor Young Dolph‘s legacy, Moochie enlists Key Glock and Kenny Muney for features, and shares a new verse from Dolph himself on mixtape highlight “Fun.” Whether he’s bouncing over a Bill Withers’ sample on “East Haiti Baby,” belting out cash-crazed melodies on “Money Money Money,” or swapping spitfire flows with Dolph, the Memphis native’s colorful charisma is felt throughout the 15-track tape.

Big Moochie Grape burst onto the scene in 2020 with Eat Or Get Atean hard-hitting EP that earned coverage in XXLUPROXX2DopeBoyzHotNewHipHop, and more. Home to singles like Big Juice” and Uh Huh Uh Huh Uh Huh” (4.6 million views), Eat Or Get Ate established Moochie as one of PRE’s most valuable players. The rapper returned with a vengeance on Paper Route Empire’s PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi mixtape, turning in highlight tracks like Illuminati Business” and Non Stop” (1.3 million views), and made his mark on Paper Route Empire Presents: Long Live Dolphdelivering the powerful and defiant In Dolph We Trust (1.5 million YouTube views).

With his buttery flows and cucumber-cool demeanor, Chavo is leading the charge for Pi’erre Bourne’s SossHouse label. Proving why he’s more ready for action than a minuteman, Chavo shares his new Pi’erre Bourne-produced video single, “Call On Me.” Latching onto Pi’erre’s sunny organ melodies and skittering synth with his lullaby-like flow, the track finds Chavo at his most unbothered, keeping himself occupied while he waits for the one he wants to make his hotline bling: “I stop and get gas at 3 in the morning, I need some petro/Not filling my car, I’m filling my lungs, we blowing the best smoke.”

The Marko Visuals-directed video follows Chavo and his associates as they man the phones at an auto repair company, when Chavo receives a call from his lady friend whose car broke down. Appearing out of thin air to save the day, Chavo shows his associates that all it takes is a little finesse to come up big. “Call On Me” arrives on the heels of February’s A$AP Ant & GT-featuring “Wasabi,” as Chavo’s second Pi’erre Bourne-produced single of 2023.

A key member of Pi’erre’s SossHouse label, Chavo’s rap ambitions date back to his early childhood, when he landed a deal with Interscope at the age of nine under the name Ray Ray, as part of a trio with his cousin James and Baby Bun, Big Pun’s son. Around 2014, Chavo was introduced to Pi’erre through his cousin, YSL artist Strick, planting the seeds for his recruitment as one of the first SossHouse signees years later. Chavo earned internet attention when he released his hit “Michigan” in 2021, generating over 31k TikTok creations and millions of streams across platforms. Later that year, Chavo teamed with Pi’erre Bourne for his acclaimed mixtape, Chavo’s World 2.

Stay tuned for much more music from Chavo, including his anticipated project Chavo’s World 3, and SossHouse as 2023 rolls on!

Cash Cobain, the multi-hyphenate NYC rapper & producer extraordinaire known for originating “sample drill” has just released his new EP, Slizzy Day including features from Lil YachtyTaTa, & Vonte*. Cash is fresh off of a monumental year in 2022, having released his critically acclaimed mixtape 2 SLIZZY 2 SEXY which received ‘Best of the Year’ nods from The New York TimesPitchforkThe FADER, and UPROXX as well as co-signs from Frank Ocean who used his song “JHOLIDAY” in a Homer Ad and Drake who featured his music on OVO Sound RadioCash Cobain was also the subject of a high-profile feature in New York Magazine following the explosion in popularity of Drill music in NYC, and more specifically “Sample Drill”—a subgenre which Cash pioneered in the summer of 2021 by producing hit songs like “My Everything” by B-Lovee, a flip of the classic Mary J. Blidge record. The success of the song burst open the doors for Bronx drill to flourish––even inspiring Cardi B to revisit her Bronx roots and participate in the trend on Kay Flock‘s “Shake It”. Out now, Slizzy Day expands on Cash’s signature style across six new tracks complete with R-rated flirtations, breezy charisma and ethereal, sample-heavy production.

On the Slizzy Day EP, Cash is effectively expanding on his artistry by stretching the boundaries and blending a curated array of genres and sounds into one that is uniquely his own. The celebratory release coincides with Cash’s birthday and serves as a gift for his fans. As he raps over a range of beats with masterful samples ranging from Aaliyah to Miguel, the new EP is a charming listen through the lively mind of Cash Cobain. On “No More Bodies”, Cash is joined by Lil Yachty as the duo executes a slow-rolling track full of lively charisma over a sample of a recent Afropop smash hit. By sampling SWV’s classic song “Weak” on his new track of the same name, Cash blends his old school R&B influences with his interest in modern-day drill music by pitching up the vocals and placing them over top of a stuttering drum pattern and snaps. Although the production across Slizzy Day often features recognizable samples and heavy bass, Cash always showcases his finesse as an emcee by carving out his own pockets to flex his charm and enthralling flows. Serving as a testament to how far Cash has carried his sound in the Hip-Hop world, Slizzy Day boasts features from the likes of Lil YachtyTaTa and Vonte*. After curating the sounds of NYC with his iconic production techniques and breaking out as an exemplary rapper in his own right, Cash Cobain is adding to his uncompromising momentum with the release of Slizzy Day—out now.
