Ace Hood Announces ‘B.O.D.Y.’ EP, Re-Ignites the Turn Up on “Energy”

Published

on

“This is flow, movement, a magnetic feel. Light beings! Passing along information through energy.” – Ace Hood

A master of balancing self-improvement, social consciousness, family life, and artistic independence, Ace Hood knows his energy is worth protecting. Returning to show that he is more spirited than ever, Ace shares “Energy,” the first single from his upcoming B.O.D.Y.EP. Arriving this summer, B.O.D.Y. (Build Or Destroy You) serves as the followup to February’s M.I.N.D.EP. Whereas M.I.N.D. (Memories Inside Never Die) aimed to provoke thought in its listeners, B.O.D.Y. focuses on perception and the role of human senses in distilling lived experiences.

Teased on Instagram earlier this week, “Energy” is one of Ace’s most charged-up tracks in his decorated career. Highlighted by fresh flows that float over the airy instrumental’s booming bass with a renewed sense of drive, the track finds Ace comfortably adorning his crown: “Heads up, the king is here in my ride/When it’s right on time and if you do not mind/I’d like a glass of Prosecco wine, I’m with the queen bout to get offline/Wait, scratch that.” The uptempo “Energy” indicates the more emotional and melodic approach that Ace takes on the B.O.D.Y. EP.

Directed by Alex Heider, who recently connected with Ace for the powerful “At War” and “Free” videos,  “Greatness” opens with the image of Ace sitting in a home office decorated with antique furnishings, before transitioning to the interspersed portraits of Black historical figures lining the home’s mahogany walls. Those immortalized in the portraits include Mae Jemison, the first Black woman to go to space; Arthur Ashe, the first Black athlete to win many of tennis’ most prized tournaments; Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman in Congress and first Black person to run for US presidency; and Young Dolph and Nipsey Hussle, both revolutionaries of independence in hip-hop. After paying homage to the leaders that paved the way for them to achieve their own “Greatness,” the last two portraits are revealed, capturing the heroic images of Ace Hood and Killer Mike.

Released this spring, M.I.N.D. marked a fresh, new start for Ace. The EP was animated by a clear social message that dissected the mentality required to triumph over personal and generational trauma. Whether celebrating the spoils of his hard-earned self-sovereignty as an artist on tracks like “Living Legend,” or grappling with long-standing structures which serve to deny him that autonomy as a black man on songs like “Free,” M.I.N.D. served as Ace’s testament to the universal truths found only by looking inward. With B.O.D.Y., Ace aims to uncover the individual truths exposed by experiencing the universe outwardly.

As he prepares to bulk up the sound of summer with B.O.D.Y.,  stay tuned for much more music and mindfulness from Ace Hood.

Dallas Riser Numbaa 7 Recruits Babyface Ray for Soulful “Difference” Single

Following the footsteps of the late Mo3, Dallas rapper Numbaa 7 impresses with his Texas-fried brand of soulful trap. Echoing his mentor’s famous sentiment–”everybody ain’t your friend”–Numbaa 7 shares Difference,” his new single. Produced by Dallas stalwart Rob Stovall, “Difference” combines mournful piano with guitar, organ, and wailing saxophones to provide an ideal canvas for Numbaa 7’s drawly croon. Numbaa 7 counsels listeners to watch the people close to them for signs of their true intentions, while guest Babyface Ray warns aspiring VIPs to watch out for “cool-ass n****s.” “Difference” is the newest glimpse of Diary Of A Steppa, 7’s next album, coming July 15th via EMPIRE.

Born and raised in the Pleasant Grove section of Southeast Dallas, Numbaa 7 determined that the only way he could escape his circumstances was by picking up a mic and a pen. At the age of 16, rhyming under the name of YNB x Stretchgang, 7 released “Numbaa 7,” his debut single and anthem, racking up over 2 million streams across platforms. Despite his fast start, Numbaa 7 encountered personal and legal obstacles that nearly convinced him to give up on his rap dreams. That all changed when he met Mo3, the Dallas legend, who took him under his wing and signed him to H$M Music. After signing to H$M in 2019, Numbaa 7 quickly regained his regional bonafides, teaming with Mo3 for Play Wit ‘Em, a Dallas street hit that racked up over 5.6 million views on YouTube. Mo3 tragically passed away in November 2020, but since then, 7 has put in the work to further his mentor’s legacy, releasing singles like Control Us,” with Mo3 and fellow H$M artist MTM DonDonMurda Who” ft. Jackboy, and Chess,” which Sparky called a “Dallas anthem.”

With Diary Of A Steppa, 7 welcomes listeners into his world, carrying the flame for H$M as he builds his own legacy in Texas and beyond. Stay tuned for more.

Blending athletic verbal dexterity with a sharp sense of storytelling and a facility with melodic flows, rising Edmonton-via-Burundi artist ARDN is the total package. Coming through with an aspirational anthem perfectly suited to rising temperatures, ARDN shares Paper,” his latest single. Built around a walking bassline that provides a perfect counterpart to ARDN’s vocals, “Paper” finds the rising artist effortlessly switching flows from melody to rapidfire rhymes and back. The artist’s virtuosic verse mixes impressive internal rhymes with cutting punchlines and flirtatious come ons, creating quotable quips purpose-built for social captions: “Ion ever miss, but if I ever do, you can guarantee I’m gonna put it back.” “Paper” is available everywhere via 11 Music Group.

“‘Paper’ is a song that describes a girl I have strong interest in, that is dealing with a number of struggles in her life,” explains ARDN. “I offer her an opportunity to escape, by taking on a new journey with me in which we’ll adventure, and grow rich together.”

ARDN continues, “I went to the studio one day to record, and my boy Tyler Banditt showed me this idea he came up with for me, with my other friends Mardi Woya and Mariano Zelaya. I was instantly hooked, and couldn’t get the melody out my head. After the session I rushed home and immediately started penning verses to compliment it and everything flowed effortlessly. I went back to the studio, we put it all together, and we both knew in that moment that we had just made something special.”

“Paper” continues a breakout year for the young emcee, marked by organic growth and augmented by viral success. Earlier this year, ARDN made waves on TikTok with his song Til The Morning,” which generated over 17k video creations and helped the song surpass 1.3 million streams on Spotify. ARDN’s follow-up single Jupiter & Mars” proved his staying power, generating over 1.2 million streams in two months and earning praise from Complex. His 2022 built on momentum created by his single “Wavin” (2.8 million Spotify streams) and its accompanying project “Alien”.

ARDN has been honing his craft for years, studying the music and movement of artist like Anderson .Paak, Smino, and J. Cole and filtering his influences through his experience as a child of immigrants and his prodigious talent. With much more music on deck, including an EP dropping at the end of the summer, ARDN is one of the most exciting artists in the game today.
