@mohamedxdotcom repurposes a Dr. Dre classic for “Still Bay”

Published

on

It takes guts to hop on anything that Dr. Dre makes. He knocks each release down with some earth-shattering charisma and ghostwritten lyrics that make his creations wholly his own. Having the moxy to hop behind him and repurpose anything of his, especially his greatest hits, is a feat in itself.

Behold MohamedX, a Bay Area-native with a musical death wish. His gamble pays off because his single “Still Bay,” a rendition of Still D.R.E., is just different enough to work. The beat is slightly different, and the lyricism. Woah. Let’s just say that this is the type of rapping that’ll give you the stink face, in a good way.

DannyAlwaysWin and Team Eastside D-Nice get extra smooth with “Obstacles”

Published

If you can get over seeing DannyAlwaysWin’s stomach in the camera frame for extended amounts of time, the video for “Obstacles” is tight. It shows off the fruits of hard labor, the good life, as it relates to modern success. There are guns everywhere, but no one’s fearful of them going off. They’ve worked hard, now it’s time to relax and play. The production captures this vibe, being the kind of sounds you expect to hear on the shores of Hawaii when on vacation. D-Nice absolutely bodies the chorus AND his verse, rapping with such conviction that you’ll have to remove your headphones on more than one occasion to process his capabilities. Danny turns up as well, as he always does.

Do you want to hear something brutal? The trap production evident on “Check On Me” is a throwback to the brutal days of Lex Luger and Zaytoven’s early 2010’s dominating, 808-driven sound that transfixed the nation. Rawood and Team Eastside Peezy hop on this lucrative beat and decimate it with some hard-hitting flows that will make your jaw hit the floor. The standout moment goes to Team Eastside Peezy’s “I got that check on me/And for you niggas playin’ foul/I got that tech on me.”
