@mohamedxdotcom repurposes a Dr. Dre classic for “Still Bay”

Published

on

It takes guts to hop on anything that Dr. Dre makes. He knocks each release down with some earth-shattering charisma and ghostwritten lyrics that make his creations wholly his own. Having the moxy to hop behind him and repurpose anything of his, especially his greatest hits, is a feat in itself.

Behold MohamedX, a Bay Area-native with a musical death wish. His gamble pays off because his single “Still Bay,” a rendition of Still D.R.E., is just different enough to work. The beat is slightly different, and the lyricism. Woah. Let’s just say that this is the type of rapping that’ll give you the stink face, in a good way.

Music is often therapy for artists. Rappers step in the booth and begin confessing to the microphone, for fans to hear and make their judgements. “Too Real” is extremely therapeutic and is a personal release from J. Stalin and JT who have so much on their minds. When they reveal that they’ve had their heart broken by someone they trust, it’s an impactful and sharp dagger. You’ll vibe to the song’s smooth, mellow nature while pondering what they’re saying.
