Tee Grizzley and Lil Yachty’s “D to the A” was a landmark moment for Detroit rap, connecting it to a bigger city to manifest more interest in the city’s music scene. MBNel has taken a stab at it, implanting some Bay Area pep into it with his polished flow and visceral street raps. It’s nearly equal to the original in terms of sheer bars being spit.

Like his 2020 No Slime Left Behind project would imply, Slimelife Shawty is a loyal man. On his latest video single, “Homicide,” the ATL upstart cleverly rhymes, “Forever on my homies side/and all we know is homicide.” It’s a loyalty anthem about staying down for the people that lift you up when things get hard, especially under the circumstances Slimelife Shawty describes on the track. In the video, he and his guys are celebrating the come up with some iconic money spreads.

“Homicide” is Slimelife’s first new song of the year, and it follows a profile-raising year for the young talent. He recently recruited 42 Dugg for “Don’t Worry (Clappers)” (Remix), his biggest hit to date with over 13 million streams across platforms on the original version. The 22-year-old rapper connected with Lil Durk for “Brazy Life” and is a frequent collaborator with Lil Keed and Lil Gotit. The Alamo Records signee released his full length No Slime Left Behind project in May, and later in the year made noise with his street hit “All Summer” (1.8 million YouTube views).
