Rocky Badd’s lyrical abilities are second to none. On “Talking Crazy” she knows she’s one of the best, so she has to show and tell. To a dark and foreboding, bass-heavy instrumental, Rocky spits her trademark brand of hardcore, yet relatable raps. There are a few punchlines here and there, but her goal is to translate her overall message, not to inspire a couple of insincere laughs. She succeeds too. We have, yet again, another piece of evidence to bring to the table when someone’s looking for one of the best lady rappers in the game.
Drew Famous dropped the aesthetically bizarre 800DASH last year, and now he’s releasing the video for “Look At That!,” a crisply shot trip heavy on the nostalgia. It’s almost like one of those weird training videos from the 1990s that makes brilliant use of washed out color palettes and cool camera angles. It features PLAY of Virginia group Breezepark who brings tenacious energy to the chill tune.
Robot’s tenacious new track “Big Ol Booty” will undoubtedly be the soundtrack to a lively time once the weather warms up. The Texas-based rapper knows how to have a good time, judging by past hits like “Camera” and “Sleigh,” and brings that same approach to this tune, reveling in his unique energy to breathe fresh air into the instrumental. Ladi Earth, whose music has just been featured on Netflix’s Russian Doll (her song “Water“), appears her and brings some sex appeal to the proceedings.
The best part of Akhil Sesh’s new record “I Don’t Need Nobody” is the swiftness in which it moves. The video, edited by Goetia Portal, is beautiful and clean, combining cinematics with artfully shot clips that create a unique experience. The song itself is a smooth reinforcement of Sesh’s dominating abilities that showcase his growing palette of sounds.
